The Louisiana Medical Political Action Committee (LAMPAC), the political arm of the Louisiana State Medical Society (LSMS), has endorsed candidates in the Governor's race, 35 legislative races, and in the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's race. LAMPAC is a non-partisan, state political action committee. It is a separate organization from LSMS and is responsible for political fundraising and candidate support.

"LAMPAC is pleased to offer our support to these endorsed candidates, three of whom are LSMS members and physicians," Robert Bass, MD, LAMPAC's chairman. "It's been a number of years since we decided to take a position in the Governor's race, but we have one of our own running in Dr. Ralph Abraham. We believe that physicians supporting physicians is important, and when you have a candidate like Dr. Ralph Abraham, it's very easy to make this decision. Dr. Abraham has a wealth of knowledge that is critical to helping Louisiana improve healthcare outcomes. Joining Dr. Abraham as LSMS members and candidates are Drs. Greg Lord and William "Beau" Clark. LAMPAC has endorsed all three candidates and looks forward to having additional physician voices to highlight healthcare issues in Louisiana."

In its first round of endorsements, the PAC has endorsed 37 candidates. The PAC is continuing to review other races and candidates for viability in alignment with its goals and objectives.

"LAMPAC's board members take their charge very seriously," said Dr. Bass, "We spent several hours discussing every race that is contested in Louisiana. We will continue to compile research and information and plan to meet again multiple times in order to determine which candidates best align with physician's beliefs and our efforts to protect our right to practice medicine in Louisiana.

Louisiana's physicians contribute to the overall economic health of Louisiana. Beyond physicians' role in safeguarding the health of our communities, physicians in Louisiana are a major driver of the state economy, spurring economic growth, and creating jobs across all industries. Louisiana physicians hire locally, buy locally, and support the local economy. Through the creation of jobs with strong wages and benefits paid to workers across the state, physicians empower a high-quality, sustainable workforce that generates state and local tax revenue for community investments. Physicians add opportunity, growth, and prosperity to the Louisiana economy by creating 119,515 jobs and generating $19.9 billion in economic activity, according to a 2018 report, The Economic Impact of Physicians in Louisiana, released by the Louisiana State Medical Society (LSMS) and the American Medical Association (AMA).

LAMPAC serves as the trusted advocate for physicians in the state of Louisiana. The PAC aims to promote excellence in the practice of medicine and is the largest physician PAC in the state, representing all specialties and friends of medicine with a common interest.
